State rules
Nevada
Nevada requires a well driller's license from the Division of Water Resources before a driller develops wells, plugs abandoned wells, or rehabilitates an existing well when the work is a significant change in design or construction. The division's licensing page says every well driller must apply annually before doing that work, and that a licensed driller must supervise the site. The Well Drilling Management System is the online place for a new application, annual renewal, and continuing education. Nevada Administrative Code chapter 534 is the text the division cites for qualifications and testing. A separate testing page states the application steps. This record does not list drillers.

The testing page says an applicant submits an electronic application and a $100 fee, must be at least 18, must show at least two years of full-time qualifying experience, and must provide at least four professional references. The division decides whether the experience and references fit the license sought. The exam has two parts. The written exam requires at least 80 percent. The second part is an oral interview by the Well Drillers' Advisory Board. At least three accepted references are required before the written exam is scheduled, and the oral exam is scheduled only after the written exam is passed. Both parts must be passed.
Licenses expire on June 30. The renewal page says a renewal application is due by June 15, with a $50 fee, and that the driller must show at least eight continuing education units in the licensing period. At least once in two consecutive renewal periods, those units must include the division's course on Nevada well drilling regulations, statutes, and forms. The division's continuing education guide says one hour of directly related training generally equals one unit, with lower credit for some safety and pump courses. Expired licenses are not simply late renewals. The guide describes reapplication or a waiver petition.
Testing locations printed on the division's page include Carson City at 901 South Stewart Street, Suite 2002, with the contact number (775) 684-2813, plus Elko for the written exam and Las Vegas for both parts. A property owner should ask for the current well driller license and should ask who will be the licensed driller supervising the rig. Notices and well logs are part of the driller's duties under the division's program, so ask which filing will be made for this well. The $100 and $50 figures are printed on the division's pages and are not stored in the fee field.
