State rules
Well driller licensing by state
Drilling a water well is regulated so groundwater stays protected. Some states certify the driller through a health department, a water-resources agency, or a licensing board. Others require a contractor license and a separate county permit before the rig shows up. The state pages name the agency we verified and link the official program. They do not list individual drillers. Use the state's own lookup, linked when we found one, to see whether a license is active.
