Kentucky certifies water well drillers and monitoring well drillers through the Division of Water in the Energy and Environment Cabinet. The Well Driller Certification Program page says certification follows 401 KAR 6:320. The same page says the division gives technical help on well construction standards in 401 KAR 6:310 and on maintenance of water wells and monitoring wells in 401 KAR 6:350. Online recertification is open each year from June 1 through August 31. The cabinet's Frankfort office printed on the page is 300 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort, KY 40601. The program email is DOWDrillersProgram@ky.gov. This record describes the certification. It does not list certified people.

The page says recertification is not possible unless three conditions are met. There must be an active bond on file. Insurance must be current. A driller must have completed 5 training hours, and a driller assistant must have completed 8 training hours, between July 1 of the previous year and June 30 of the current year. Paperwork for the bond, insurance, and training is submitted through the program's document page before the person uses the ePay system. The page says those files can be submitted electronically throughout the year, not only during the recertification window.
Examinations are arranged by emailing the program. The page names the National Groundwater Association exam and a Kentucky water well or monitoring well driller exam, and it says certification exams are administered remotely. Application form DOW6060 is the application for certification as a water well driller, water well driller assistant, monitoring well driller, or monitoring well driller assistant. DOW6070 is the renewal application for those same categories. DOW6080 is the affidavit of supervision for assistants. The page also links a performance bond example and a certificate of insurance example.
Training may come from a list the division publishes, and alternate training must be approved by email to the program. The page says the Kentucky Groundwater Association annual tradeshow and workshop, held in March, is the preferred source for the required annual training. A person comparing drillers should ask which Kentucky certificate the driller holds, whether the bond and insurance are current, and whether the five or eight training hours for the year are done. Construction questions point back to 401 KAR 6:310, and maintenance questions point to 401 KAR 6:350. No fee is copied into the fee field of this record.
